60 Years Young

The 68 members of the West Salem Lions Club are hard at work again, supporting the West Salem area, making donations, and at the same time celebrating sixty years of Lion's Service to our community.

Way back in October of 1948, the West Salem Lions Club was chartered by Lions International. To mark their 60th anniversary the West Salem Lions will do just what they do the first Wednesday of every month: meet at Westview Inn for dinner, attend their meeting and make plans to help the West Salem Community and the many projects and charities that Lions International supports around the state, the nation and the world. District Governor Mike Kelley of Mauston will attend the November 5th meeting to mark the anniversary.

The Gift of Sight

At the 1925 International Lions Convention in Chicago, Helen Keller asked the Lions to consider becoming, "Knights of the Blind". Lions International accepted the challenge with great pride. The prevention of blindness and assisting the blind is our mission. Campaign Sight First I has prevented blindness in 30 million people around the world. Campaign Sight First II, has now completed their fund raiser. Lions provide vision screening, diabetic awareness, medication to prevent river blindness, reading glasses, leader dogs and cornea transplants. Hearing aids are also collected and recycled for the hearing impaired. Please consider donating any unneeded eye glasses and hearing aids to receptacles around the community or any Lion member.
